Shreveport

Shreveport is the third largest city in Louisiana, with a population of over 200,000, and sits on the western banks of the Red River in northeastern Louisiana.  Shreveport is closely tied to its smaller sister city of Bossier City, opposite the Red River.  The Shreveport-Bossier City metropolitan area is the center of the region known as the Ark-La-Tex, due to its position relative to Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas.  The area was once the hub of a thriving oil and gas economy.  While still known as a natural gas hotspot, the city has largely transitioned to a service economy.  In particular, the area has seen a rapid growth in the entertainment and gaming industries, hosting various riverboat gambling casinos and downtown arts attractions.
There are three micro-breweries within a short driving distance

Within walking distance of the conference hotel, Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino, are numerous restaurants, night clubs, and theaters.  Also newly opened in 2017 is the Shreveport Aquarium just a few block away.  Just across the river is the Louisiana Board Walk, a river front outdoor shopping and dining venue that hosts Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World and a 14 screen stadium seating theater complex.

Across the river in Bossier City, Barksdale Air Force Base offers the 8th Air Force Museum, one of only 12 Air Force Field Museums in the Country.  Open to the public, the museum hosts over 120 historical displays, including 28 aircraft or aircraft equipment ranging from the modern day Air Force back to World War II.
